Safer Lone Working and Inclusion – Topics Tackled at the Health & Safety Event

Safer Lone Working and Inclusion – Topics Tackled at the Health & Safety Event

Experts and companies from various industries discussed challenges, benefits, and innovative solutions in worker safety at the recent Health & Safety Event, held at the NEC in Birmingham from Tuesday 29th April to Thursday 1st May.

With five main stages – The Keynote Theatre, Practical Safety Theatre, The Knowledge Exchange, Driver Safety Zone and Lone Worker Safety Live – a wide variety of topics were discussed, including training needed, AI integration, safety, event management, and inclusivity. These talks emphasised the importance of technological advancements and safety measures for a modern workforce.

The Health & Safety Event is the UK’s largest gathering of anyone responsible for running a safe and efficient workplace.

Other talks covered issues related to lone working, post-Grenfell fire safety legislation, inclusivity and making workers feel valued, promoting good OSH practices, and the importance of adapting workplace culture to evolving health and safety challenges.

We were at stand 4/F124 speaking to attendees about how our software can help businesses improve HSE.

The Re-flow team spoke with Nathan Stovell from The Safety and Security Event Series, one of the organisers of the event, and heard why these kinds of shows are so important. We also caught up with clients like Matthew Cox (SHEQ Manager at SDM Fabrication Ltd), who has been using Re-flow now for over a year, and it was great to hear how we have helped improve the company’s site operations.

By implementing a digital tool like Re-flow, companies can access a range of forms – either pre built or custom made to meet specific requirements. A great example is the software’s dynamic risk assessment, which utilises intelligent formulas and calculations to automatically identify consequences, probability of risk, who is at risk, and to define what risk reduction is already in place. This data is then used to generate a final automated risk rating.

The software also lets site managers keep track of operative training and qualifications, therefore ensuring that everyone on-site is compliant. Notifications trigger in the scheduler if adequate training isn’t present.

Elsewhere on Re-flow, a database of Toolbox Talks ensures that all operatives have the relevant information and knowledge to take on the tasks assigned to them. Scheduling Toolbox Talks to take place at the beginning of the workday, and making completion mandatory, safeguards the workers and keeps businesses compliant. Operatives must submit a unique digital signature, with time, date, and location attached for further auditability.

With customisable notifications for service intervals, detailed safety check records, and location tracking, users gain oversight of where their equipment is and what equipment is operational. Automated reminders to complete mandatory vehicle and equipment checks also reduce risks of wear and tear before issues become expensive and dangerous. There’s also the ability to upload any relevant documents, and dos and don’ts – not to mention fatigue tracking, instant data uploading, and in-software communication. All this leads to robust audit trails.

Aaron Bilenkyj, Business Development Manager said, ‘Health & Safety is so important in the industries we serve. Remaining compliant, reducing risks, and keeping in-depth audit trials are pain points that have cropped up time and time again when speaking to our clients.

‘According to industry professionals at the event, Re-flow’s instant communication, toolbox talks, qualification monitoring and fatigue tracking is an asset for operatives working in the field. This, along with Re-flow’s other features – like the aforementioned dynamic risk assessments – are all in place to ensure compliance and safety.

‘Embracing a digital solution is the way forward. New technologies like field management software are being widely adopted by industry leaders and innovators in order to prevent and mitigate risk, and to ensure the safety of their current and future workforce.’
